Generations of Dundonians once relied upon vast reservoir ponds at Monikie and nearby Crombie for their water supply. These days, city dwellers head for wooded country parks which have been offering nature trails, angling, bird sanctuaries and watersports since the early 1980s.
Angus villages and rural hamlets offer a sought-after lifestyle, with buyers keenly aware all the trappings of modern life are within easy reach. They enjoy the open fields, rolling hills or perhaps even the lure of a popular leisure resort.
Newbigging was once a "costar town" with a toll house by the old turnpike. Traditionally, the cottages were occupied by farm labourers and some date back more than 200 years.
Rural churches and manses have also been given a new lease of life and are likely to be home to commuters making a living in Dundee or in one of the easily accessible coastal towns.
