Planning ahead is always important, but now more than ever! The Scottish Government has advised that it may be of interest to postpone moving house during the pandemic if possible, however buying and selling is still permitted under current restrictions!

Planning ahead is important as many of the processes involved in buying a home are different to how they were before. It is advisable that those buying a property familiarise themselves with the Scottish Government guidance from the outset, plan ahead and have back up plans in place just in case unexpected delays or problems arise.

Contact Experts as Early as Possible

Even though many things have calmed down during the last few months, since the property market reopened properties have been seen to go under offer within just a week of going live. It is advised that you act quickly if you see a property you like and contact experts as soon as possible, just in case you miss out on your dream house!

Most solicitors will not charge you for noting interest or for an unsuccessful offer, so it’s best to contact them as soon as possible as they can advise and assist you on making an offer or give you more details regarding the property.

Make Use of Virtual Tours

As part of the current guidance from the Scottish Government, you should view properties virtually at first and only proceed to a physical viewing if you have a serious interest in buying the property. 

Prepare for Decorative Delays

If you are expecting to move house under the current restrictions, remember that tradespeople should only be entering homes for essential work. Unfortunately even when these activities are allowed, it is expected that tradespeople will have an extensive backlog of work to get through, so it is best you get in touch with them as early as possible and be prepared to be patient if they have a waiting list.
